Colours are the most joyous part of the Holi celebrations. They add life and vitality to the festival making it most vibrant of all.

Holi is a Hindu spring festival in India also known as the festival of colours. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest. As the festival is celebrated with various colours because colours represents joy and various shades of optimistic emotions.

It is believed that this festival of colour came into existence because of the legend of Radha and Krishna. Where lord Krishna applied colours to other villagers, from their only this festival became a symbol of equality irrespective of their caste, class and creed. Holi helps to bring the society together and strengthen the secular fabric of our country.

The colours used in this festival has their own significance, each colour telling their own story, as red colour signifies purity, green signifies vitality, blue signifies calmness and serenity and yellow signifies piousness. The most common of these colours is Gulal which has its own medical significance which helps in curing viral fever and cold amongst people who are affected by it due to seasonal change from winter to spring.

It is interesting to note that the festival of Holi is significant for our lives and body in many other ways than providing joy and fun. These Holi colours have biological significance too. Besides, the colours when sprayed on the body have a great impact on it. Biologists believe the liquid dye or Abeer penetrates the body and enters into the pores. It has the effect of strengthening the ions in the body and adds health and beauty to it.

Some people also believe that play with colours help to promote good health as colours are said to have great impact on our body and our health. Western-Physicians and doctors believe that for a healthy body, colours too have an important place besides the other vital elements. Deficiency of a particular colour in our body causes ailment, which can be cured only after supplementing the body with that particular colour.

So, through these Holi colours people can exclude the hatred among each other and start a new camaraderie soaked in the colours of joy with each other.
